What is the NYLP?

Welcome to the 9-week Newcomer Youth Leadership Project, where creativity meets empowerment! The program connects newcomer youth to leadership skill training, networking opportunities, and portfolio building, all while working on a Zine project. This is a great way to:

  • Impress employers and stand out from other applicants

  • Add experience to your resume and cover letter

  • Earn volunteer hours

  • Make friends and build your network

  • Give back to your community

  • Learn more about your new home

What is a Zine?

A Zine (short for “Magazine” or “Fanzine”) is an independent publication that is typically about a topic or issue that the author(s) care deeply about. They are usually distributed within the community, are made by small groups, and are a low-budget way to share stories and information.

  • During the NYLP, the cohort will come together to decide on the theme, topics, format, and content of the Zine. The Zine will then be published online to share with the public!

  • This is an opportunity for newcomer youth to make their voices heard and share their stories. Apply today, and be part of the movement that empowers newcomer youth in Canada!

During this program, you will:

  • Inspire others
