Building Future-Ready Skills for an AI-Driven World

About the AI Upskilling

The Skills for Change AI Upskilling Program is designed to make artificial intelligence accessible, relevant, and empowering for underserved communities across Canada. Through industry-led curriculum and interactive live sessions, the program introduces foundational AI concepts while keeping ethics, equity, and real-world use cases at the forefront.

Our goal is to demystify AI and help participants explore how these emerging tools can complement their human strengths—like creativity, analytical thinking, and problem solving. Whether participants are looking to enhance their career prospects or explore new learning pathways, our approach emphasizes AI as a tool that enhances, not replaces, uniquely human potential.

Currently in its pilot phase, the program is being tested with a range of audiences, including newcomers, youth, seniors, and Black communities. The initiative reflects our commitment to building a future where everyone—regardless of background—can confidently engage with AI and the evolving world of work.

Program Components

The program uses a blended, flipped-classroom approach combining self-paced learning with live coaching and mentorship. It is structured around four core components:

  1. Google AI Essentials Course

    A trusted, foundational entry point into the world of AI, designed for learners with no technical background.

  2. Live Learning Sessions

    Interactive and explanatory sessions featuring practical exercises, use-case discussions, and space for dialogue and reflection.

  3. Sector-Specific AI Bootcamps

    Custom programming focused on AI in areas like employment, healthcare, data, climate action, and skilled trades.

  4. 1:1 Coaching and Mentorship

    Personalized support that meets learners where they are and helps them apply AI concepts to their individual goals.

These components are continuously evolving based on feedback from early pilot cohorts and in partnership with organizations across Ontario and Canada.
