Skills for Change’s Official Statement on the Mass Killings in London, Ontario
Skills for Change is shocked and horrified by the actions of the man who drove his car into five family members in London, Ontario on June 6th. This tragic incident resulted in the killing of four of the five members of this family; a 9-year-old child is now hospitalized with serious injuries. We condemn this cowardly act of violence and terrorism.
We see Islamophobia occurring in our country, daily. The Muslim community experiences it, daily. This country is better. WE are better. Skills for Change will do everything we can to shine a light on how the Muslim community is impacted by Anti-Islamic Racism, Discrimination and Hate, and we will work with community organizations, leaders and governments to combat this by leading conversations on this matter.
Skills for Change is an organization based on values including building relationships to ensure our clients can make positive contributions to the Canadian economy and respect of the diversity of our team and clients. We behave with integrity, compassion and empathy to ensure all persons are treated with dignity. Over the past 38 years, Skills for Change has served immigrant and racialized communities, including the Muslim community in building equitable communities. We stand with our Muslim clients and community as they grieve and call for immediate action to end Anti-Muslim hate in Canada.
