  • This 10-week training is designed for newcomers to Canada with intermediate-level English (CLB 5-7) who are interested in pursuing a career path in data analytics. Through this program you will have the opportunity to strengthen your English language skills with a focus on workplace culture and professional communication, learn about the data analytics sector in Canada and the roles and opportunities in which analytics can improve business results, align with business analysis and data analytics language, best-practices and industry designations, and gain technical, hands-on skills to prepare employment portfolios (including using software such as Python and Tableau) preparing you to find employment in the data analytics sector. 

    Candidates with academic background and/or at least two years of professional experience in information technology, engineering, software development, mathematics, and/or research domains are strongly preferred.

    The program will include 1-to-1 support in career planning, and opportunities to connect to employers through guest speakers, networking and employer events.   The program content is aligned with Business Analysis and Business Data Analytics Guides published by the International Institute of Business Analysis, which will be available to program participants. Discounts on IIBA designations will also be available.

    The training will be delivered full-time (9.30am-3.30pm), from Monday to Friday. Tuesdays and Fridays will be in in-person in the classroom at 791 St. Clair Ave. W. Mondays/Wednesday/Thursdays will be online.

  • Through this program you will:

    • Strengthen your English writing, listening, speaking and reading skills with a focus on Canadian workplace language and communication

    • Develop a portfolio of data analytics sector-specific work search tools: customized resume and cover letters, LinkedIn profile, interview questions and answers

    • Prepare employment portfolios including using software such as Python and Tableau

    • Receive one-to-one job search and career support, including interview preparation

    • Apply analytics best practices, approaches, language, and standards generally applied across Business and Data Analytics vocations

    • Connect with potential employers in the data analytics sector

    • Access a range of services at Skills for Change including settlement, mental health and mentoring

    • Must be an adult immigrant (18+) who is a resident of Ontario and permitted to work in Ontario

    • Naturalized Canadian citizen, permanent resident, Convention refugee or a refugee claimant; or approved as a permanent resident, or their dependent, but who has not yet been processed to receive permanent resident status (e.g., individuals approved under the Ontario Immigrant Provincial Nominee program or the Canadian Experience Class); or

    • Academic background and/or at least two years professional experience in information technology, engineering, software development, mathematics and/or research domains is strongly preferred

    • Intermediate English speakers (CLB level 5-7) interested in improving their English and pursuing a career or further education/training in data analytics. CLB assessment is required before starting (skills for change can assist you in securing this free assessment)

    • Access to a laptop/computer for virtual sessions
