James Solomon, Director, Finance
James Solomon is the Director of Finance at Skills for Change, where he leads the finance function, advises the Board of Directors, and drives operational excellence through strategic risk management, budgeting, compliance, and donor reporting. Since joining Skills for Change, James has empowered high-performance teams, enabled finance transformation through technology, and supported capital projects and governance at the city, provincial, and federal levels.
With over two decades of experience in finance and operations across the non-profit, corporate, and international development sectors, James specializes in financial analysis, automation, business intelligence, and strategic leadership. He is recognized for his expertise in accurate planning, forecasting, and reporting, as well as his ability to build controls, develop KPIs, and implement efficient financial models.
Prior to his current role, James served as Senior Manager, Program Finance at Right To Play, where he led global teams in budgeting, compliance, and donor reporting across multiple countries, spearheaded capacity building initiatives, and optimized processes for multi-year projects funded by major donors. His earlier experience includes over a decade at Rogers Communications, where he managed large-scale financial planning, analysis, and compliance, and at World Vision, where he led program finance, risk management, and microfinance initiatives supporting emergency relief and rehabilitation.
James holds a CPA, CMA designation from CPA Ontario, an MBA in Finance. He is passionate about leveraging technology for financial transformation, mentoring teams, and advancing organizational impact through data-driven decision making.
