Introducing the Beyond Decent Work Playbook – A Collaborative Resource for Career Development Advocacy

At Skills for Change, we are thrilled to share the newly launched Beyond Decent Work Playbook. This national advocacy resource, developed in collaboration with CERIC and other key partners across Canada, aims to elevate the importance of career development for individuals, organizations, and policymakers. As a member of the steering committee, I had the privilege of contributing to this important initiative to guide collective action within the career development sector.

About the Beyond Decent Work Playbook

The Beyond Decent Work Playbook outlines how career development goes beyond simply securing jobs—it fosters personal growth, social mobility, and economic resilience. It emphasizes that by integrating career development into systems like education and workforce planning, Canada can build a competitive economy while ensuring individuals have meaningful, fulfilling work experiences.

Key advocacy goals include:

  • Increasing access to career development services for diverse populations.

  • Building public competency to help people navigate their career journeys effectively.

  • Embedding career development into broader societal systems, including education and employment policies.

  • Boosting funding to expand the capacity and impact of the career development sector.

How Organizations Can Use the Playbook

The playbook provides practical steps for advocacy, from crafting key messages to planning communication strategies aligned with initiatives like Canada Career Month. Organizations can leverage the toolkit for stakeholder engagement, social media campaigns, or public events.

The upcoming Canada Career Month offers an excellent opportunity for communities and institutions to align their efforts with the themes of the playbook, helping us build momentum toward creating sustainable, future-ready workforce solutions.

Join Us in Promoting Career Development

The full playbook is now available in both English and French and can be accessed through CERIC’s National Advocacy Campaign page. We encourage our partners, supporters, and networks to share this resource widely. Together, we can advocate for equitable, meaningful employment opportunities for all Canadians.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue to promote career development through our advocacy work. We look forward to seeing this playbook serve as a catalyst for meaningful change across Canada.
