About the WeldUp Program

WeldUp is a specialized program designed to help internationally trained welders upgrade their skills and gain Canadian certification to access competitive employment in Ontario’s welding industry.

Whether you have some welding experience or significant expertise, WeldUp supports you to meet Canadian welding standards and get hired faster.

Break through employment barriers as an internationally trained welder by earning your Canadian certification without repeating previous training. This program helps you connect with employers and industry experts while building a lasting welding career in Ontario.

Two Pathways to Success

20-Hour Direct Certification Pathway

For more experienced welders needing competency assessments and training to meet Canadian standards

60-Hour Skills Upgrading Pathway

For semi-experienced welders seeking to enhance skills, knowledge, and confidence to align with Canadian industry practices.

Eligibility

  • Ontario residents, 18+ years old

  • Internationally trained welders with relevant education & work experience

  • Language proficiency at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 6 or higher

  • Permanent Residents

  • Canadian citizens

  • Provincial nominees (non-international student stream)

  • Refugee claimants with open work permit

  • Temporary workers with IRCC approval

Program Components

  • Training on welding safety, metallurgy, joint design, and industry codes & standards

  • Hands-on techniques in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) & Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)

  • Workplace culture & communication skills tailored for welders

  • Employment supports including job search assistance and career coaching

  • Earn 5 welding micro-credentials plus the Canadian Welding Bureau’s (CWB) S Classification Welding Qualification

  • Program Duration: 5 to 8 months depending on the pathway.
