GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Founded in 1982, Skills for Change is a leading non-profit organization serving immigrants and refugees in Canada. Our mission is to build welcoming and equitable communities. Skills for Change is known for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We create skills development opportunities for immigrants and refugees to access and fully participate in the workplace and wider community. Our Agency has played a major role in uplifting immigrant and equity-seeking communities for 40 years. As one of the leading holistic service providers in our sector, Skills for Change offers more than 25 programs and services, and annually serves 16,000 people who are newcomers, immigrants, and equity-seeking groups in services around employment, integration, mental health, leadership, entrepreneurship, and more.

PROGRAM NATURE AND SCOPE:
Skills for Change (SfC) is at the forefront of promoting diversity within skilled trades apprenticeships, leveraging over 15 years of experience to support immigrant and racialized women through targeted programming in trades such as plumbing, welding, carpentry, and horticulture. Our comprehensive approach includes leadership training, networking, mentorship, and mental health supports, ensuring a holistic pathway to employment in the trades. In an expansion of our mission, we are seeking a dynamic Events Supervisor to lead the development and execution of workshops and networking events across multiple provinces, and to take charge of a variety of events including media launches, symposiums, recruitment drives, community gatherings, and fundraising initiatives. This pivotal role will report directly to the Manager of Events and Communications and will require close collaboration with internal departments, participants, committees, vendors, and donors to elevate Skills for Change’s profile nationally.
The successful candidate will:
•Demonstrate exceptional leadership in logistical planning and execution of our first national conferences, working alongside internal and external partners to ensure flawless events.
•Exhibit a deep commitment to social programs and the economic empowerment of immigrant talent, fueled by innovative thinking and a strategic approach to brand awareness and engagement.
•Possess the flexibility and openness to embrace new ideas and solutions, underpinned by a keen interest in data analytics and digital strategy optimization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Spearhead the execution of national events that elevate the organization’s visibility and impact.
•Manage the comprehensive logistics of national conferences and events, from conceptualization to execution, ensuring excellence and adherence to timelines.
•Innovate and develop engaging event concepts and content that align with SfC’s branding and mission.
•Lead a dynamic team, providing mentorship, direction, and support to foster a collaborative and high-performing environment.
•Drive the creation and implementation of digital marketing strategies, enhancing online presence and engagement.
•Forge and nurture strategic partnerships and collaborations, extending SfC’s network and resources across Canada.
•Oversee the marketing and promotion of events, leveraging social media and other platforms to maximize reach and impact.
•Conduct ongoing evaluation of event strategies and outcomes, utilizing data analytics to inform future initiatives.
•Ensure an exceptional experience for all event stakeholders, from attendees to sponsors and partners.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES:
•A minimum of 7 years of experience in event coordination and marketing, with a proven track record in leadership roles, preferably within a non-profit and national context.
•Advanced degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Event Management, or a related field.
•Expertise in social media, graphic design tools, and digital platforms, coupled with a passionate commitment to the organization’s goals.
•Demonstrated ability to lead under pressure with sound judgment, managing complex projects and diverse teams.
•Extensive experience in planning and executing large-scale in-person, virtual, and hybrid events, including national marketing campaigns.
•Skilled in partnership development and strategic alliance building across various sectors.
•Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a flair for creative and educational content development.
•Adaptability to a fast-paced, evolving work environment, with availability for flexible work hours as needed.
•Completion of a clear vulnerable sector check.
