Land Acknowledgment

At Skills for Change, we acknowledge that the work we do takes place on the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. This land, now known as Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, is still home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who continue to make vital contributions to our communities.

We recognize that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13, signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and is also part of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between Indigenous nations to share and care for the land and its resources in harmony. This treaty reminds us of the need to respect the land and the people who have stewarded it for generations.

Skills for Change is committed to serving communities, including newcomers, with a deep respect for the Indigenous peoples of this land. As we focus on building a brighter future for all, we recognize the importance of reconciliation and the role we must play in addressing the ongoing impacts of colonization.

We honor the resilience, wisdom, and contributions of Indigenous peoples and commit to fostering meaningful relationships and creating opportunities for learning and collaboration as part of our work. This acknowledgment is a step in recognizing the land and its original caretakers and our shared responsibility to care for and sustain it together.
