POSITION NATURE AND SCOPE:
There are two Research Assistant positions available. One will work under the supervision of the Supervisor, Program Design and one under the Supervisor, Grants Administration. The Assistants will support all researchrelated activities, writing of funding proposals, and provide assistance in regard to information gathering and analysis including (but not limited to):
IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English language

• Ability to work independently to achieve day-to-day results in a diverse and dynamic team environment.
• Demonstrated time management & organizational skills.
• Knowledge of the skilled trades sector and labour market trends and opportunities for women and newcomers in the sector.
• Sensitivity to, and understanding of, issues and barriers to employment faced by women, newcomers, youth,
and other disadvantaged groups.
• Demonstrated commitment to high standards of culturally sensitive service delivery within anti-racist and ant oppressive frameworks.
• Good organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Strong skills in equitable data analysis, discussion facilitation, report writing, and presenting complex information in accessible formats and using accessible language.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES WITHIN THIS ROLE INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Actioning research projects and activities designed by the Supervisor, Manager, and/or Director
• Conducting literature reviews that span scholarly, trade, and other grey literatures.
• Equitable data analysis to identify gaps, trends, and opportunities in Canada’s labour market.
• Designing research tools (e.g., surveys, discussion guides).
• Facilitating meetings and discussions with various internal and external parties including individuals, community groups and organizations, professional associations, academia, and others.
• Compiling data/information (e.g., tabulating and entering data, preparing data tables, cleaning datasets, setting up spreadsheets).Quantitative and qualitative analysis (e.g., cross tabulations, descriptive data mining, frequency tables, measures of central tendency and dispersion, cluster analysis, time series analysis, content analysis, thematic coding, framework analysis, time-ordered matrices).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• College diploma or university degree (and/or currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution) with a focus on statistics, data science, economics, or labour studies.
• Minimum 1 year experience working in research and project management/design.
• Research experience in labour market and/or workforce development planning.
• Experience in data/information collection, equitable statistical analysis, quantitative and qualitative research, and data visualization.
• Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal labour market sources (i.e. Statistics Canada, Labour Force Survey, etc.).
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCES THAT WOULD MAKE YOU STAND OUT
• Advanced ability to speak, read, and write in French.
• A research-based graduate degree
