Testimonials
At Algoma University, we were looking for a one-day professional development training to support students who lead volunteer teams and preparing to enter the workforce. Specifically, we were looking for training focused on customer service, professionalism, or workplace skills to help students develop soft skills and leadership competencies to navigate Canadian culture and the workplace. I reached out to Skills for Change, as they offer a wide range of courses, and was connected to the Career Skills team. After discussing our needs and learning goals with Christina, she shared that while this specific training was not part of their standard offerings, the team could design a customized session to meet our requirements. I reached out to Christina in late February, and the turnaround was very quick—the training was ready by May and delivered to students by June.
On the day of the session, Anna delivered the training, while Christina and I coordinated the session logistics. The training took place as a three-hour, in-person session and was highly engaging, with students actively applying and practicing key concepts through individual and group activities. The participants—most of whom were international students—found it extremely valuable. Students reported gaining a better understanding of Canadian culture and workplace nuances, strengthening their soft skills and communication abilities, and learning effective leadership and conflict resolution practices.
Thank you, Christina and Anna, for your time and dedication to making this training a success. The session went very well, and students were engaged throughout. It was a pleasure welcoming you to campus, and we look forward to future collaborations.
