Strengthening Partnerships: Inside Skills for Change’s Employer Engagement Networking Event

In March 2026, Skills for Change hosted a vibrant Employer Engagement Networking Event, bringing together a diverse group of partners to celebrate collaboration, connection, and shared impact. Designed as an evening of networking, games, food, and meaningful engagement, the event created a welcoming and relaxed space where employers could connect, reflect, and be recognized for their ongoing support.

With representation from approximately 35 organizations, ranging from large corporations to nonprofit partners and small businesses, the event reflected the breadth and strength of Skills for Change’s employer network. Attendees included valued partners such as York Region Police, Jumpstart Refugee Talent, CIBC, and International Business University, alongside many others who have contributed to advancing newcomer employment pathways.

Celebrating Partnerships Through Connection and Community

The evening was intentionally designed to move away from a formal structure and instead foster authentic, interactive engagement. Through thoughtfully planned activities and games, participants were encouraged to step outside of traditional networking and connect in creative and memorable ways.

One of the standout moments of the night was an interactive activity where participants were invited to “sell” an item in a one-minute pitch. The result was a series of imaginative, energetic, and often hilarious presentations that had the room roaring with laughter. These moments not only brought levity to the evening but also highlighted the diverse talents, creativity, and personalities within the room.

The event also included a keynote and an overview of Skills for Change’s Employer Engagement efforts, alongside open conversations where partners shared insights into their experiences, hiring needs, and opportunities for collaboration.

Recognizing Employer Partnerships That Support Newcomer Success

At its core, the event was about appreciation and recognition. Skills for Change has built strong relationships with its employer partners over many years, some long-standing, others newly formed through recent collaborations and programs.

This event offered a meaningful opportunity to give back. The focus of the evening was to celebrate and thank partners, acknowledging their critical role in helping newcomers access employment opportunities, gain experience, and build successful careers in Canada. It was also an opportunity to strengthen our existing partnerships and explore new ways to work together.

Skills for Change extends its sincere thanks to all employer partners who continue to champion newcomer success. Through your commitment and collaboration, we are building stronger communities and creating lasting impact together.
