With over 40 years of operations, Skills for Change is a highly respected non-profit charity with a province wide reputation for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We offer a range of accelerated programs including mentoring, employment, settlement, language training together with specialized programs for skilled trades, women, and youth. We have 5 locations across the GTA and serve 16,000 clients annually. We believe we are in the best position to provide thought leadership through evidence-based programming, impact stories and proactive policy advocacy using knowledge mobilization products.
The Research Support Officer will report to Manager, Program Marketing and Communications and will support the Program Design by engaging in extensive research and analysis of the labour market trends incorporating all intrinsic and extrinsic factors in order to develop an intellectual reference repository for client services and Skills for Change program delivery.
This is part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program,
• Applicants must have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 30 upon commencement of employment.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
- Conduct primary and secondary research on labour market conditions and econometric models of employment, hiring requirements, and talent availability.
- Support with detailed analysis of labour market and job sector trends, employee needs and data gathering activities using e-surveys, polls, structured interviews and virtual focus groups. • Monitor labour market conditions and ensure the accuracy of current forecasts.
- Maintain an up to date database of statistical information relevant to socio-economics and labour market forecasting in all relevant sectors.
- Participate actively in the ongoing intellectual development and continuous improvement of labour market forecast models and tools
- Scanning and updating grants pipeline for funding opportunities as required
- Engage in numeric and textual data analysis activities including (but not limited to) cross tabulations, descriptive data mining, frequency tables, measures of central tendency and dispersion, cluster analysis, time series analysis, content analysis, thematic coding, framework analysis, time-ordered matrices;
- Support in developing labour market intelligence products that contribute to the research priorities of the organization
- Aid in the development and implementation of impactful research projects (e.g. needs assessments of core client groups, workforce integration strategy papers, Focus area best practices white papers, shared solutions podcasts/videos, shared challenges statement);
- Provide support in the writing of research notes, concept notes, program outcomes evaluation framework, work plans, and ensuring compliance with all grant making criteria to inform programming and grant application related to improving clients’ employability and employment outcomes.
- Present data, when requested, in a manner that will be understood by co-workers and stakeholders; • Support SfC project activities as required;
- Perform other administrative duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Subject knowledge and verbal/written communication skills to discuss and document research progress.
- Demonstrated time management & organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently to achieve day-to-day results in a diverse and dynamic team environment.
- Ability to problem solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research.
- Research experience in labour market or workforce development planning will be an asset.
- Ability to apply logical critical analysis.
- Knowledge of performing analysis of multiple data sets, data collection, statistical analysis, quantitative and qualitative research, and dissemination of results.
- Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal labour market sources (i.e. Statistics Canada, Labour Force Survey, etc.) is a definite asset.
- Strong grasp of working in a Microsoft and Google’s environment (eg. Zoom, Slack, Gmail, Google suite, Excel, Nvivo, Mentimeter, Salesforce etc.)
- Experience with racialized, newcomer, women issues with an intersectional, anti-oppression framework etc. is an asset.
