Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m authentically Charmaine. I was born on the sunny island of St. Lucia but I moved to Canada 20 years ago. I consider myself to be the luckiest girl having the best of both worlds. Prior to coming to Skills for Change, I’ve worked in multifaceted roles in administration, event management, and marketing. I’m currently pursuing my marketing degree – through Seneca@York. I approach life itself with enthusiasm. I’m never shy about trying new things and I make new friends easily. I’m extremely competitive, I love a good laugh and a great cup of coffee.
How did you first learn about Skills for Change?
As a newcomer, it’s so easy to feel lost and fall through the cracks. An organization similar to Skills for Change literally changed my life when I first moved to Canada but It was through a LinkedIn post I got more and more intrigued about the organization.
What do you do at Skills for Change?
I’m currently hired full time as the Client Engagement Support in the East office. This role suits me as I’m totally a people person.
What do you like doing outside of work/on your days off?
I love running! I joined the Nike Run Club in Toronto in 2016 and fell in love with the sport. Since then I’ve been hitting the streets, exploring new trails in our beautiful City. I’ve racked up over 1200 km incorporating running in my everyday life. My current goal is to complete a 5km in under 25 minutes. When I’m not running I’m spending time volunteering at events or with my family.
What is the favourite part about working for Skills for Change?
The people. The team is exceptionally diverse and everyone has different skills that they are willing to share with the rest of the team. Although I’m fairly new to the team, the amount of support I’ve received has been overwhelming.
