Skills for Change is offering a free-training program in Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship for applicants interested in the field. The program is in partnership with Humber College.
This program prepares applicants who have a keen interest in the Skilled Trades for employment in the carpentry industry.
Typical jobs in this industry are in rough carpentry, roofers, cabinet carpentry and framers among others.
The program is full-time, offers intensive training for 22-weeks; includes academic upgrading, hands-on-training and a paid job placement.
-Permanent Refugees, Convention Refugees, Refugee Claimants with valid work permit and Canadian citizens
-18 years of age or older
-Live in Toronto, or GTA and are eligible to work in Ontario
-Secondary School (Grade 12) diploma, or equivalent
-Commitment to a full-time training program
-Qualified Industry Instructors
-Level 1 Apprenticeship training for the trade of General Carpentry in Ontario
-Health and Safety training: including WHMIS, worker safety and First Aid
-Introduction to Cabinet Making
-Employment preparation training
-8-week paid work placement in the landscape industry
-Individual counseling and support services
