Skills for Change is committed to supporting skills-building learning and employment opportunities for more people in skilled trades. This program prepares participants for employment in the Welding sector.
The Welding/ Automotive Service Technician Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a tuition-free program (funded by the Government of Ontario) that is designed to help participants who are 18+ transition to an apprenticeship in the trade of welding. As a participant, you will receive the equivalent of Level 1 Welding apprentice training as well as exposure to the trade of Automotive Service Technician. It will provide you with the academic and practical experience required to succeed in the skilled trades. Training will be followed by a paid work placement of 8 to 12 weeks for those students who attend all training and fully participate in employment prep workshops, including submission of all required materials.
- Academic Upgrading
- Equivalent of Level 1 Welding Apprentice training as well as exposure to Automotive Service Technician
- Employment preparation training
- Emergency First Aid/CPR Certificate training
- Working at Heights Certificate training
- All textbooks, safety training, small tool kit, and safety equipment are included – free of charge
- Employment support for paid work placement
Applicants who are 18 years of age or older, live in Toronto or GTA and are eligible to study & work in Ontario Secondary School (Ontario Grade 12) diploma, or equivalent, at or above the general level

*Selection of successful applicants will be based on a measurable commitment to the training program and a the goal of registration as a Welding apprentice or registration in a related trade (such as Automotive Service Technician)
