Diversity @ Work Leadership Series

Celebration of Diversity

Thursday, January 20, 2011
8 am to 5 pm

Toronto Board of Trade
First Canadian Place, Suite 350
Toronto, Onatrio

Due to the overwhelming response from our successful inaugural launch of the NPA Diversity @ Work Leadership Series, Skills for Change has planned our 2011 Leadership series entitled: “Integrating Diversity in Our Work Environment”. This Leadership Series will centre on the theme of diversity management.

The Diversity @ Work Leadership Series is an informative and engaging opportunity for business and community leaders to share their knowledge, experience and strategies of how they are employing cultural diversity as a key element of success.

At this event, attendees will be able to participate in an interactive series of sessions that showcase successful strategies in introducing diversity in all our business processes. Keynote speakers will introduce strategies they have created to bring about impactful change with diversity in the workplace.

The Series will be presented in two parts:

Leadership Panel

An interactive forum where a selection of past New Pioneers Awards recipients, business and community leaders share their accomplishments as a way to inspire others. There are over 100 successful immigrants and refugees (past NPA Award Recipients) to draw from for this leadership panel.

The panel will be comprised of outstanding individuals who have prepared the way for thousands of newcomers to Canada, each demonstrating leadership that motivates others to follow in their footsteps. They will be speaking about how, as immigrants, they have implemented and introduced strategies to attract the best and brightest new immigrants. We will be offering a roster of key-note presenters in a panel discussion where each speaker will be requested to share the key elements of their leadership success with attendees.

Diversity @ Work Sessions

With the theme of “Diversity Management”, top keynote speakers will guide participants through one hour sessions on initiatives they have introduced into their organization. Topics include, “Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Workforce” “Career mobility: How do we help new immigrants manoeuvre in a “do-it-yourself environment”, “Canadian experience required vs technical experience required”, and “How to make testing relevant to all applicants” and others.

Proposed Targeted Audience
  • HR personnel who want to develop or strengthen diversity initiatives
  • Training managers who are involved in new recruit onboarding
  • Young professionals who are interested in garnering new and innovative experiences with diversity in the workplace

Expected Outcome
Diversity @ Work Leadership Series will bring together GTA hiring managers and HR executives to discuss leadership strategies and practical solutions and initiatives to effectively engage and benefit from a culturally diverse workforce.
